General Elementary School Audiences:
A school visit by the Euclid Quartet blows old-fashioned classical music stereotypes out of the water. Jokes and stories told through
music replace the formality
of a normal concert – creating an atmosphere of
excitement and exploration where students are encouraged
to move around and react to the music in fun and familiar ways.
While students
laugh and enjoy the music, teachers recognize the carefully
crafted balance of fun and function. Visual,
aural, and kinesthetic activities are seamlessly woven
into educational programs that are proven to boost enrollment in elementary school string orchestras. (More information is available on the page about their Iowa Residency.)
A typical program includes music from the famous masters
alongside engaging music fresh from the pens of living
composers – and
even some famous tunes from pop music and movie
soundtracks.
While serious lessons about music history, style, and
appreciation are surreptitiously slipped in, the underlying
message
is that all music can be fun and worthwhile.
