Quartet Welcomes New Cellist

Si-Yan Darren LiThe Euclid Quartet is thrilled to welcome cellist Si-Yan Darren Li as the newest member.  He joins us after a nationwide search to replace our departing cellist.

Si-Yan has an impeccable background as a soloist and chamber musician, with performances in renowned concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the Kennedy Center, and many of the most important concert halls abroad.  In addition to numerous prizes at competitions in the U.S., he was one of the youngest prizewinners at the Tchaikovsky International Competition for Young Musicians in Moscow, Russia.

He fills the position vacated by David Beem, who left due to a hand injury.

EQ Partners with Fischoff

Euclid Qt in MishawakaThe Euclid Quartet and the Fischoff National Chamber Music Association have partnered for an unprecedented residency that will bring chamber music to all of the public schools in Mishawaka, Indiana.  Fischoff and the Euclid Quartet will present 14 programs in Mishawaka’s 9 public schools during the two-year project.  S.A.M. I Am (Stories And Music) programs will target young readers in grades K-4 through a musical re-enactment of a children’s book. The book will be given to 98 classrooms.   Middle and high school orchestras will receive master-classes and workshops to improve musical skills and artistry as well as boost self-confidence among students.

Started in 1995, Fischoff’s Arts-in-Education Residency has reached 43,700 children. It is the only residency of its kind in Indiana and the winner of 4 grants from the National Endowment for the Arts.

World Premiere of Quartet+Student Side-by-Side Performance Project

World premiere in Temperance, MichiganOn April 15, 2008, the Euclid Quartet and the string students of Bedford Public Schools in Temperance, Michigan, performed the world premiere of James Leatherbarrow's Symphonies of String Instruments.  The performance received an enthusiastic standing ovation.

This new side-by-side work was commissioned by the Euclid Quartet, to enable the Quartet to perform along-side string students of all levels.  The unique structure of the new piece allows it to be performed by the Quartet along with up to three different levels of student string orchestras, or combinations of the different levels.  While the inner movements offer each orchestra the chance to play one-at-a-time with the Quartet, the outer movements combine the full force of the three orchestras along with the quartet for a stirring opening and finale.
